Is Venus Losing Her Edge
Venus Williams lost her first round match in the Kremlin Cup. It’s not the first time she has lost in an early round and probably wont be the last - unless she retired. It raises the question as to whether or not she has lost her touch and is now starting that slide into tennis oblivion.
One would like to think not. Some the matches that she has played against her sister have been real classics. Serena is still at the top of her game, albeit not as sharp as several years ago. For all sports people, the time eventually comes when you have to decide whether or not you still have the skill level, fitness, and perhaps desire to keep going.
Tennis and golf are two individual sports where the top line athletes can earn money just by appearing in an event. Winning is a bonus. In fact, with tennis, get to the quarter finals and you’re guaranteed a good payday. In golf, finish in the top 10 and there is a good pay check waiting.
