Some NCAA Coaches Are Underpaid Are They?

I don’t know how you feel on the subject, however and article on SportsViews caught my attention when it pointed out that some NCAA coaches may be underpaid.

Charlie Weis is only earns $4.2 million a year. He is successful and Notre Dame reap the rewards of his efforts, however, at $4.2 million, is he really underpaid. How much should we be paying coaches? The article mentioned a percentage of schools football revenue. I can see some logic in that. The better performed the team is, the more revenue they can raise.

Surely the position of coach is a negotiated one? The coach places a value on his own head, the school places a value on the coaching position, and the two negotiate between those two positions. To use a formula doesn’t always reflect the true nature of the job.

If a team has been struggling you may need to pay more than the designated percentage to lure in a good coach to lift the team. It’s a tricky problem with no easy answer. Perhaps you have some thoughts on the issue. If so, feel free to add your comments to the article.
