Basketball (NBA)
The World Series isn’t over yet - YET, and the talk is all about the new basketball series. The NBA series is promising to be a good one with many changes in personnel compared to last season.
Not only are there plenty of Buzz posts, there are bets being created on a daily basis and even the odd pre-season video. Some of the Buzz posts are quite entertaining, some pretty challenging.
Like I said, the World Series isn’t even finished, however Philadelphia have high expectations of their sporting teams, particularly the Phillies. The Philadelphia 76ERS will be the next to feel the pressure as the home crowd look to build on the current success of the Phillies.
The fans are ready. The stadiums are ready. I believe the players are ready so let’s ‘play ball’ - basketball that is.
Read what the NBA fans have to say on the current teams and checkout the bets that may be available. If you have an opinion on the subject of NBA, or any other sport, then pay a visit to SportsViews.com.

Baseball (MLB)
I wrote yesterday that last night’s game was crunch time for the Tampa Bay Devil Rays. Did they let me down. You bet they did, they forgot to turn up. With a scoreline of 10-2 you would think the wrong team had anyway.
There are no second chances now. It’s do or die which is really a shame. This has, until last nights game, been a close World Series and thrilling to watch. Last nights was too - until the 9th - but we wont focus on that will we. Everyone else can have their say on last nights game, I want to concentrate on the next, and possibly last, game of the World Series.
Can Tampa recover and take the scoreline to 2-3. They will at least get the chance to take the series home for one more game, perhaps even two if they play well.
Ten of the past eleven teams to win game one have gone on to win the series. This puts the ball in the Phillies court. So far they haven’t disappointed. The scores are on the board and they lead 3-1 with one to play at home.
It’s been a good season, it’s just a pity it has to end so soon!

Soccer (Int'l Football)
Much has been said about David Beckham and his proposed move to Milan. Unfortunately much of what has been said has been unfair and probably a little unwarranted.
Beckham is coming back to Galaxy for the start of the new season. However, as he says, his whole career has revolved around playing and/or training for 11 months a year. Until moving to Galaxy, he had never had a three month ‘holiday’ at the end of a season.
After last seasons ‘holiday’, Beckham found it difficult to resume playing. He is over 30 now with a body that has been playing football for over 20 years, the past 15 as a professional. In a nutshell, his move to Milan at the end of the season is to stay fit, not just in the legs, but in the head as well, and that comes from playing quality football rather than simple training on the track.
It’s a good move by Beck’s. He stays fit, he gets to play again in a top line competition, and of course, as a bonus, he is closer to the English national World Cup team. Is it coincidence? Of course not. The would have been on his mind when considering what to do. But then - what’s wrong with that?

American Football
This weekend saw London’s Wembley Stadium, the hallowed turf of English soccer, play host to an NFL match between the New Orleans Saints and the San Diego Chargers.
With the globalization of sport, particularly through television and aided significantly through expats developing sports in their host countries, events such as the baseball World Series, the Superbowl, FA Cup final and even the Australian Football and Australian Rugby league finals all draw huge audiences - and don’t the advertisers love it.
Australian football has toyed with demonstrations matches in the UK, US and throughout Europe. Soccer has developed a system of ‘friendlies’ between clubs and national teams and clubs from the NFL have paid fleeting international visits to promote the game. The day had to arrive when regular season matches would be taken abroad in an effort to promote the sport.
The English Football Association has raised the issue on several occasions but been silenced by the howls from fans and clubs. In Australia, they have played with this idea but never taken it seriously. On Sunday, 83,226 fans were thankful for the NFL’s decision to make a return visit. Last seasons effort was disappointing in a number of areas. This year’s was a raging success.
With two different sets of results to assess, where to from here? Does the NFL continue to showcase the sport internationally, or do they keep a home competition - at home?
Provide the fans with quality competition involving two quality teams and you will always have a popular turnout. It’s great for the game internationally, however, the real assessment has to be on whether or not it harms the home competition. For now, I think it’s here to stay. Do you think the NFL in Wembley is here to stay?

They have done it before and I am sure they will do it again, however, can they do it today? Trailing 1-2 in the World Series, it really is crunch time for the Tampa Bay Devil Rays.
If Tampa are take the series back to home territory then they have to win at least one of these games away. They lost the first away game and losing today would put them in the death seat at 1-3 and every game a must win.
The playoffs, particularly the Red Sox - Rays playoffs were exciting contest. So far these two teams have been closely matched with little between them both on the field and on the scoreboard. To see the series end 4-1 would be a shame and would rob the fans of an exciting contest.
With luck the Rays can take one of these next two games to send the series back to Tampa. We have to have something exciting to talk about.

The unbeaten Chelsea today lost their home record when visiting Liverpool claimed top spot on the league ladder with a stunning 1-0 win.
Chelsea fans arrived expecting to leave at the end of the day as the clear leader of the premiership. Instead they watched as Liverpool stole the three points, the premiership lead and all their pride. Chelsea now sit equal second with Hull on 20 points. They will now have to regroup to travel to Hull on Wednesday night.
This loss will dampen their confidence a little whilst providing a spur to Hull and others. Chelsea are not invincible - they can be beaten. A loss to Hull will see Chelsea drop to a least third, perhaps even further depending on other results. This is one win that will certainly be discussed at length.

English football is going through its annual mid-season crisis with managers jumping from one club to the next. Juande Ramos is gone from Spurs leaving the door open for Portsmouth Manager Harry Redknapp to take over.
Redknapp has already served as manager at West Ham and Southampton before arriving at Portsmouth. He about to add Tottenham to his resume. He has some degree of success at Portsmouth taking them to victory in the FA Cup last season.
In the meantime, Sam Allardyce, the former Bolton and Newcastle manager is the favourite to take over at Portsmouth. Allardyce doesn’t have the best of records but he is taking over a team that is performing reasonably well in both the domestic and UEFA cup competitions.
As for Juande Ramos, he has only been in the job for a year and should receive a fairly good contract payout. Whereto from here? Ramos won the UEFA Cup with Sevilla and will be in demand, perhaps in Europe. No one can really criticize him for Spurs current situation. After all, Spurs sold several top players including Dimitar Berbatov to Manchester United and Robbie Keane to Liverpool, both top goalscorers. Roman Pavlyuchencko from Spartak Moscow was the only replacement and he has done nothing of note.
With the general state of football, don’t be surprised if Ramos ends up at Newcastle. He couldn’t do any worse there, could he?
